EMDR therapy in Vancouver, BC & online
You’ve tried everything you can think of to feel better, but nothing’s sticking.
Maybe you’ve been to therapy before, but you are not finding talking about your trauma is making a difference in your life or your nervous system is quite activated whenever you get too close to the pain stored in the body. The triggers keep coming back and showing up in all parts of your life. It can feel so frustrating and helpless. You want relief. I have experienced the benefits of EMDR therapy personally before I committed to becoming an EMDR practitioner and offering this approach to my clients and found the results and process incredibly effective.
maybe you’re still feeling…
Frustrated by the same triggers coming back
Disconnected from yourself & your body or hyper-vigilant (fight/flight mode)
Exhausted from being stuck in the same patterns
EMDR therapy can help you release past activation from your nervous system & access a sense of calm.
EMDR is an evidence-based method that is highly effective for treatment of trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD, anxiety, depression and challenges in relationships.
-
EMDR is a structured process - we spend the first few sessions getting to know each other & building resources and grounding strategies you can use in your daily life. These will be particularly helpful when we start EMDR processing; typically after 4-5 sessions of history taking & building your grounding toolkit.
-
EMDR is effective both online and in person. We will take our time building a sense of comfort and safety together while building a map connecting your present triggers wit past events. Once we start processing & desensitizing the past events, you are still in control of how fast and far we go as you can always pause or stop the process. We will adjust processing speed based on your nervous system responses so that it does not feel overwhelming.
-
EMDR is helpful in desensitizing our brain and body to triggers based on past events we experienced. We actively work on creating new pathways in the brain to help people live their lives to their full potential. If a client has a subconscious belief that they are not good enough, we will work on desensitizing this belief while also creating a new belief that they are worthy as they are. Come experience the power of neuroplasticity!

This really depends on the nature of your trauma or current pain. The first few sessions (4-5) are focused on history taking, building grounding tools and rapport in therapy which makes processing more effective.

This is very understandable. My favorite thing about EMDR is that it is body-focused and experiential. We are focusing on releasing the stuck activated energy from the nervous system. This does not require re-telling of painful events - you choose how much you want to share and we do not need to go into detail as we focus on identifying the negative core belief connected with the trigger & then focused on desensitizing it with eye movements or other bilateral processing (tapping, buzzies).

We collaboratively choose our plan for each session and the processing method (open or restricted with shorter sets). You are always able to say "stop" or ask to "pause" if needed. I am also actively monitoring the nervous system and checking in with you during our processing time. Some clients also choose to mix EMDR and talk therapy session - you can always choose to do talk therapy if you are not feeling like it's the right day for processing. It is important to me that you actively let me know what you need in our sessions so that I can best support you.
